IG Advice, Insight and Direction

IG Landscape and Needs Assessment

We analyze firm IG policies, processes and operational compliance. We report findings and make recommendations. These recommendations may result in additional consulting activity by us, or they may form the basis for future firm-led efforts.

The scope of our analysis, the nature of our recommendations, and manner in which we present deliverables are all tailored to client needs.

IG Benchmarking and Best Practices Analysis

Conducting a tailored assessment allows us to better understand the history and factors driving the creation of current policies and procedures, the state of existing IG/RM software adoption, and real-world practices and attitudes of end user lawyers and staff with respect to IG.

We frame observations, opportunities, and recommendations in the context of broader industry trends, strategies and best practices.

IG Policies and Procedures

Comprehensive Information Governance

We will develop an IG policy that reflects how to manage all physical and electronic client matter content throughout the lifecycle of the engagement. This policy will also address the management of firm’s administrative information and records.

Retention and Disposition

Applying our proprietary database of relevant legal statutes and professional opinions to inform timeframes, we will develop guidelines that define what information needs to be retained, and for how long post-engagement, based on the specific nature / area of law for the matter. Policies also address how to effectively manage decisions and execution of final disposition.

Lateral Hire Onboarding and Departure

We will develop policies that control the acceptance, intake and custody of client information as new lateral attorneys join the firm, and the review and distribution of materials tied to lawyer departures.

Legal Holds

We will develop policies for halting routine destruction in the face of real or threatened litigation by preserving content in-place or through replication.

Ethical Screens and Information Barriers

We will develop focused policies relating to securing and restricting internal access to confidential information, driven by professional standards (e.g. ethical screens), client requirements (e.g. OCGs), or regulatory mandates (e.g. PII, HIPAA, ITAR, etc).

IG Growth and Control

Training and Change Management

To increase internal efficiency, compliance and execution of existing or new IG polices, we deliver staff training directly. Alternatively, or in parallel, we can also support educational efforts by internal training resources by providing supporting resources, materials, and advice.
